Guild Radio made some of the best novelty radios, many quite substantial. This Treasure Chest is one of them, over 11 pounds and measuring about 15"W x 11-1/2"H. There's a super clean eight-tube chassis and large speaker that produces a nice sound on AM & FM; there is some static/fuzz when adjusting volume, but once it's set there's clear reception. The solid wood case is in great condition with minor wear and retains all original hardware and rivets; the leather is in good condition and the strap where it locks in is complete although worn; often the strap has snapped off. Inside are the original wood knobs: left to right are On/Off/Vol, Tone, AM/FM & Tuning and are carved into each knob. The speaker fabric with compass & pirate ship is in great shape with no damage to the intricate face on the inside; also note the velvet lid cover and medallion are present and without damage, plus there's a little indentation about 2" SE of the "AM" that lights up when it's on. |
