Silvertone radios sold!
|Sold by David Martin on July 18, 2016|
Listed price on date of sale - $149.00
|Beautiful streamline ivory Plaskon radio manufactured by Colonial Radio for Sears & Roebuck, so beautiful in fact that it was issued First Prize in a nationwide competition, which was held in New York City. John R. Morgan was the industrial designer to whom all credit was due, being his personal winning design. Advertised in the Sears & Roebuck catalog for just $11.95, it was nicknamed the "Election," the perfect radio to listen to for the 1936 presidential election broadcast results. You may remember that Franklin D. Roosevelt won the election that year. This is a TRF AM broadcast set, utilizing five tubes, plus has a power transformer, which was sort of unusual for a smaller set. The ivory cabinet, which is the hardest to find of the "Election" series, is quite shiny and the electronics have been fully restored, taking no shortcuts. It is internally fused for your safety and is a very nice playing set for its era. 9-1/2"W x 7"H x 5-1/2"D.|
