This design of this Emerson "Moderne" is what the future looked like to a radio designer in 1947. The marbled Plaskon cabinet has beautiful curves, including the finished back, and a nice contrast with its dark red perforated metal grille. The dome-shaped molded transparent plastic dial has reversed raised lettering that is illuminated by the dial light for a very nice effect in a dark room. The cabinet has good shine and no significant scratches. A half-inch crack was repaired just to the lower right of the dial, and blends in quite well with the marbling of the cabinet so that it is not too obvious. The chassis is an "All American Five" that works perfectly, with good sensitivity and sound quality. Electrical restoration included replacement of all paper and electrolytic capacitors, new resistors where needed, a full RF and IF alignment, a new polarized power cord with rewiring of the power switch circuitry for reduced shock hazard, and installation of a fuse and fuse holder for generally improved safety. The striking design of this radio makes it a standout in any collection. 11-1/2"W x 7-1/2"W x 7-1/2"D. |
