Zenith radios sold!
|Sold by David Spivey on November 23, 2018|
Listed price on date of sale - $159.00
|This pre-War Machine Age Zenith is a very hard to find classic Art Deco radio, in a one-of-a-kind design. Legend is that it was the only set Zenith ever tried to recall. The radio and case have been completely restored, and the radio is working and playing well, picking up all my local AM stations. According to John Bryant's anthology, "ZENITH, The Glory Years," the company's founder, Commander McDonald, became interested in the possibility of using Bakelite in molding radio chassis as well as the cases. A decision was made somewhere to use an inverted chassis, and problems soon arose from owners and technicians due to the fragility of the Bakelite. An attempt was made to recall all sold and unsold radios, and legend has it that Zenith destroyed many of these sets. Hence, there were not an abundance of these radios left. You are buying a part of the history of Zenith Radio when you buy this radio. If it was good enough for Clark Gable (shown with the pushbutton model), it has to be good enough for you! About 8"W x 6"H x 5"D.|
