Silvertone radios sold!
|Sold by David Spivey on October 13, 2010|
Listed price on date of sale - $139.00
|This tiny Silvertone midget measures just 6-1/4"W x 4-3/4"H x 4-1/4"D, and was introduced late in 1938 for the 1939 model year. The radio came in four colors: red Plaskon, ivory Plaskon, black Bakelite, and walnut Bakelite. The sets were made for Sears by Detrola, and are very similar to the Detrola Pee Wee line. This set is walnut with a red dial and a red on/off knob that is not original, but looks good. There is no cosmetic damage to the case at all. The chassis originally had a "curtain burner" resistance line cord, but that has been replaced with a new line cord for safety. The chassis has been recapped and the radio plays very well, especially with its antenna line extended, picking up my local AM stations with no problem. The original back is on the radio, and has been reinforced some on the inside for support. There is a perfect label on the bottom of the case. The dial lamp bleeds thru the red dial, creating a great look. Originally intended to sell for $9.95. Very hard to find in this excellent condition.|
