|Beautiful, working, 1940s Philco wood table radio. This set dates to the 1946 model year. Great Deco styling, the use of the curved surfaces and varied tones really strike a design theme of the era. Unit has original knobs, pushbuttons, station tab inserts, glass dial lens, and Philco decal. There is no cardboard back to the set, as there was never one--even when it left the factory. It has the usual AM/broadcast band, as well as a shortwave band featuring the international broadcasters. Just tonight, I heard Russia, China, Cuba, Spain, and Canada. This set features a dual triode oscillator/mixer and three IF transformers/two IF amplifiers. This means that this set is capable of distinguishing close stations better than the average set, and will receive a greater number of weaker stations than the average set. This was a feature of some of the better Philcos of the 1941 and 42 model year carried to the early 1946 model that really set them apart. The set features pushbutton tuning (in addition to the usual dial tuning), so you can zip to your favorite stations. They function quietly and smoothly.|
