|This is an all original breadboard radio. This resided in the attic of a local grandparent's home until rescued by a grandson. I cleaned the 85+ years of "crud" off as best I could and it looks fine. The tube island audio transformers tested good, it works fine and drives a horn speaker with plenty of volume. A long wire antenna and ground are needed for best reception. The original lacquer finish is a bit crazed and it shows in the pictures as a flash reflection in white (in person you do not see it). The board has cracks that do not detract. The original capacitors beneath the tube island were replaced with larger ones; they look to be Atwater Kent caps. That required enlarging the cutout area. In summary, this is an original radio, not one cobbled up from spare parts. As such, it would be a great addition to an early radio collection. See pages 46-47 of the A. Atwater Kent book by Williams and Wolkonowicz for a discussion of the parts used on this. Additional pictures are available (including as-found pics).|
