Airline 62-318 (1936) "Movie Dial"

Airline 62-318 (1936) "Movie Dial"
Sold by Keith Park on August 30, 2016
Listed price on date of sale - $575.00
BC + 2SW. This is one of the famous Airline movie dial sets made by Wells Gardner. These sets have a very complex and ingenious tuning mechanism that uses a drum with 35mm film on it imprinted with the dial scale and stations that are then projected onto the front dial glass and move from one side to the other as the drum is turned. Each band is in a different color and the tuner also features a fine and coarse adjustment with a tuning eye and dial indicated tone and volume controls. The chassis is a stunning chrome plated unit with wrinkle painted components in excellent condition and looks as good inside as the cabinet does outside. This is a rare opportunity to own one of these unique and spectacular sets in a table top model, of which there were very few compared to the consoles. 22"W x 13"H x 10"D.
