| Made in Chicago at the infamous "Plant A," this set is one of countless brands that utilized the Clinton 195 chassis. While no brand designation is on the front of the cabinet or dial, it is listed on a tag underneath as being a Federal. In fact, they used the US Department of the Treasury seal, with text removed, on the dial. A true "G-man" radio! This is a four-tube plus ballast TRF circuit, utilizing primitive early 1920's technology. As such it requires an external antenna to receive even strong local stations. No AVC. It's a pity that such a sub-par performing radio was placed in such a stylish cabinet. But what it lacks in performance, it makes up for in looks. The mini cube cabinet has been totally refinished using spray toners and topped off with a light spray of clear enamel for durability. Comes with a set of tubes that tested strong, all new paper and filter capacitors, out of tolerance resistors replaced, and a new line cord. Because of the primitive TRF circuitry, my standard add-on 3.5mm cord could not be installed on this unit. 11"W x 9-1/2"H x 7-1/2"D. |
