| If you're looking for a 30's radio that is totally unique, that no one else has, this set is it. Beyond rare, I've never seen another in 40+ years of collecting. This is the first example to appear on Radio Attic, too. The brand name, Duette, refers to the fact that this radio has two speakers! Decades before stereo came along, this small table model has a left and right-side speaker. Of course it's not anything resembling stereo, but the sound coming out of both speakers at once definitely fills the room! If that wasn't enough, it has amazing graphics on its multi-color airplane dial, with a violinist in front of a radio microphone (possibly Rubinoff) on the top half representing the AM broadcast band, and a 1930's police sedan broadcasting police calls representing the combination Short Wave & Police band! It's a four-tube plus ballast set. The chassis has been completely gone through with new caps and resistors. It's an early superhet set with no AVC so you need the long wire connected to an external antenna to receive stations. The antenna is connected directly to the volume control, so the louder you turn the volume, the stronger the stations come in. It takes both hands to tune as strong stations will blast! As such, my usual 3.5mm aux cord could not be installed on this set. Cabinet was nicely refinished by the previous owner. Grille Cloth is original. 17-1/2"W x 8-1/2"H x 8"D. |
