Monarch CM256A (1938)
(wood tube table radio w/SW/Ingraham cabinet)

Monarch CM256A (1938)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Here's another first-timer on Radio Attic. Not much is known about this Detrola off-brand Monarch. The chassis corresponds to a Detrola model 225, and indeed its design is very similar. It's an unusual seven-tube AC/DC set that had a switch to change from AC or DC (that has been disabled and left in the AC position for safety). The other surprising thing is the dual 43 output tubes in push-pull. That, coupled with a large 5-inch speaker, gives the radio strong sound. Dual bulbs illuminate the slide-rule dial. It receives all of my local stations with its long wire attached to an external antenna or use the attached 3.5mm cord to play your own content through the radio. Short wave is more active at night. The chassis has been totally recapped, tubes tested strong, controls cleaned & lubricated. The Ingraham-designed cabinet, with its amazing burl pattern veneer, was stripped & refinished using spray toners topped with a light coat of clear enamel for durability. 17"W x 9"H x 7-1/2"D.
