| Here is a somewhat rare & highly collectible Art Deco Firestone "Air Chief" which was known as the 1939 NY World's Fair model. Seldom seen & hardly ever for sale. The Firestone radios marked with Air Chief brands were manufactured by Detrola, Wells Gardner or Stewart Warner. This bullet shaped design reminds me very much of the Stewart Warner "Varsity" model with its knob, dial, & pushbutton configuration, tho the Deco lines & grille are are completely different. This beauty was professionally painted by a custom auto painter friend of mine who did custom automobile painting for over 40 years. It also has at least three coats of auto clear coat which was his practice style. (This is not a shake & rattle can paint job). It is perfect & the colors really "pop." Please notice the perfect lettering & winged man motif which was also perfectly hand lettered and also clear coated. This radio will not disappoint! It's in mint condition, no damage or cosmetic issues. It was finished off by a FYLP repro correct back. The chassis has been gone over by a pro tech & everything that needed changing was done, and the radio plays clearly with an extended length of wire for the antenna (included). About 13"W x 6-3/4"H x 7"D. |
