Zenith 5-R-312 "Beehive" (1938)
(Bakelite tube table radio)
|
Here's another near mint Zenith from my personal smoke free collection. This five-tube super-het radio was introduced in the 2nd half of 1938 as part of Zenith's 1939 line-up & is often referred to as the "Beehive" for obvious reasons. This Deco Bakelite table radio is quite showy with its cylindrical ribbed speaker grille & domed top. This cabinet is in very nice condition. All original including knobs, pushbuttons, dial, dial cover, station tabs, speaker, and cardboard back. It even maintains the factory stencil on the bottom. Beautiful bright lit gold dial. Extremely nice clean rust free chassis. I did add four felt tabs/feet on bottom. Positively no scratches (not even on bottom), no cracks, no repairs & it does show lots of swirled mottling. Tough radio to find in such good condition (rate it at least a 9.5). Recent restore replacing all caps, tubes & resistors as needed + alignment. Picks up all my locals with lots of volume with only the short antenna. Absolutely ready for play/display. 12"W x 8"H x 7"D. $295.00. (1640331)
