The Chicago-based Stewart-Warner Corp. began producing speedometers and many other automotive parts in 1912. They started radio production in 1925 and by 1926 were producing 1000 radios a day. The company over-produced radios and even though their radios were of a high quality, this forced them to sell at reduced rates, not a good business model. The instrument division was always a success and carried the company to profitability. The 07-514H is a five-tube, AM only AC/DC radio. We replaced all of the capacitors with modern Mylar equivalents. The resistors and tube were checked and replaced where needed. A new power cord, antenna lead, and safety fuse were added. Gary stripped the cabinet, which was made of dark walnut, American walnut and maple veneers. He's carefully refinished the radio to a beautiful "piano" lacquer finish. The single knob, speaker, chassis, and dial are original to the set, and a feature of this radio is the beam of light dial pointer. We were unable to find the decal that designates the stations from 550 to 1500. The dial turns left to right. This radio is a good performer across the dial, and will be a very interesting addition to anybody's collection. 9-1/2"W x 6-3/4"H x 6"D. $495.00. (1600652)
