General Television 1A5 (1947)
General Television 1A5 (1947)
Small and cute. This is one of the less-expensive versions of the more famous Catalin variation of this set. The cabinet is a plywood box covered with fabric. I know some of these were leatherette but I can't find documentation on a fabric version. This might be a leatherette that was re-done as a homebrew, but the clips fastening the grille, dial window, and handle look completely original and untampered-with (no broken posts.) So I'm going to go with original. The chassis is a five-tuber, and has been fully serviced with new caps, tubes as needed, lubrication, cleaning, and alignment. It plays well. The cabinet has some variation caused by age and a couple of spots where the glue came through later on. I added new felt feet to the bottom. The grille, escutcheon, and handle are all intact and show minor shrinkage. This is a flawed beauty that still displays nicely from the front. I'm pricing it low in the hopes that someone will give it a nice home. 9"W x 6"H x 6"D.  $49.00. (1560049)
