Philco 53-658 (1953)
(cloth/leather tube portable radio w/SW)

Philco 53-658 (1953)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

For the 1953 model year, Philco introduced this fairly large and attractive deluxe portable with a real mahogany speaker grille and a top quality leather enclosure. This model has never been sold on Radio Attic previously, and this particular one had a pampered life; it's about as clean as you will find for a 72 year old article of leather. Even the chassis inside is clean as a whistle. The radio has two bands -- the standard broadcast band and a "special services" short wave band covering 1.7 - 3.4 MHz. Compared to most tube portables, this radio has an extra tube serving as an RF amplifier for excellent sensitivity and reception quality. The chassis has been fully restored to operate like new, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced, a strong set of tubes, a new power cord, and a careful alignment and dial calibration. The original 5-inch speaker is in perfect condition and sounds good. Knobs, dial, and everything you see are original. It operates with 120 VAC power, or can be powered by a special 9V + 90 V battery pack (not provided) for true portable operation. Shipping just $25 to 48 states. 14"W x 11"H x 6-2/3"D.
