Terms and Conditions
for Phil Bartells' Radio Attic

General.  Prices shown do not include shipping and handling costs.  Also, please feel free to contact me with questions or if you would like additional pictures.

Sales and Payment.  I will sell to the earliest email received stating the intent to buy.  Your email stating you intend to buy constitutes a sale.  I will reply with an email requesting the ship to address and payment preference.  I accept Money Orders, Bank (Cashiers) checks, personal checks and PayPal.  PayPal is for the buyers convenience, and PayPal charges a 3% fee, which will be shown as a handling charge.  Money Orders, Cashier's checks and PayPal ship right away, personal checks require a waiting time (until it clears my bank, approx 5 days) before shipping.  For International sales, PayPal is required.  For local pickup, payment must be made in cash or prepaid as described above.  Payment must be received in full within ten (10) days of the sale.

Guarantee.  All radios, if restored and stated as working, are guaranteed to work for 90 days after receipt.  If the radio fails in that time span please contact me and we will work together to solve the problem or if necessary ship it back for repair.  I will either repair and return it or refund the purchase price, whichever I decide is the best course of action.  A buyer shall not attempt a repair without contacting me first.  Failure to contact me will void the warranty!  Shipping expense both ways is the buyer's responsibility, unless it is determined that the failure is a restoration error on my part, in which case I will pay shipping both ways.

Shipping.  I have shipped hundreds of radios with great success over a ten year period of selling radios and tubes, etc.  I use heavy duty boxes (often double boxed), large bubble wrap, Styrofoam peanuts and take extra care to protect your purchase from the rough handling of the shipping company gorillas.  I will try to find the best shipping price, but prefer FedEx Home Delivery.  The service used is the buyer's decision, and must include insurance.

Summary.  I have been selling on Radio Attic for more than ten years, and have sold hundreds of radios.  I intend to continue until I have no more to sell, so I will do my very best to make you happy with your purchase.  I have been buying, restoring, and selling radios for more than fifteen years, and take great care with restoration and shipping.

How I restore my radios

I have been selling radios on Radio Attic for over 10 years, and elsewhere before that.  I hold AAS and BS degrees in Electronics Engineering, and have restored radios for over 50 years.  I perform all of the electronics work, so you only have one person to deal with if problems occur.  However, problems rarely occur because of the procedures I use in restoration.  With few exceptions, I replace all wax/paper and filter capacitors with new modern ones.  If this is not done, open and shorted capacitors will ultimately result since these old parts degrade over time and are now seeing high voltages for the first time in 70 to 80 years.  It may not happen right away, but it will happen.  I prefer to avoid that possibility.  Resistors and tubes are also checked and replaced if out of spec.  This is followed with proper tuneup and alignment so all stations appear on dial where they should be.  Speakers are re-coned if needed.  I strive to make the radio inside look as good as new.  I take pictures of the restored electronics and am happy to provide them.

As for cabinetry, I only refinish if needed, and then by using proper sealers and nitrocellulose lacquer, same as was done originally.  I will never use polyurethane or other modern finishes.  Many of my cabinets are professionally restored by a furniture restorer who has been in business for 60 years!  Because of the time involved in restoration, my prices may be a bit higher, but you get what you pay for, so buy with confidence.
