Get a load of this nifty little Emerson BA201. As late 30s budget radios go, this one is a pretty nice example. The big, bold wood dial escutcheon really stands out against the walnut veneer on the front. Inside is a minimalist four-tube TRF with a 5-inch good sounding speaker. After my usual thorough restoration, it is a decent player with fairly good dial accuracy. The sides and top were just poorly matched pine, so I had to tint them dark. The speaker was replaced with a permanent magnet type by a previous servicer, so I removed his ballast resistor and replaced it with a proper filter choke. I had to make the rear cover and dial glass. The dial is a little deteriorated, but presentable. The finish is slick and gorgeous, with a few minor specks and dings that they all have. The shiny, dark color didn't photograph very well. Trust me. It is exceptional. This is rare. Only one has sold on the attic. If you are an Emerson person, this is one you probably don't have, and I hope you want! It has the TRF antenna volume control, so you have to crank the volume for weaker stations.
