Crosley 865-F "Monitor" (1936)
(wood tube tombstone radio w/SW)
|
Here is a very nice & large Crosley tombstone that has never been offered on our Attic & actually I cannot find much info except a few pics in Crosley Ads of the day. It has basically the same chassis as its console counterpart (865-P). Nicknamed "Monitor." Beautiful veneers with some solid walnut panels with great grains. Totally restored inside/out. All caps replaced + resistors & weak tubes replaced as needed. This one is really a strong player (eight-tuber) & picks up all my locals & beyond with no external antenna. This is a five-band radio tho some are now defunct due to no programming. Regular SW works well with just a short wire antenna (supplied). All wood knobs, bezel, speaker, dial, etc. Speaking of the dial you have to love the depicted Two Worlds globes separated by the 500,000 watts WLW tower which shows beautifully with the strong lit dial. The grille cloth is new era correct replacement. The shadow meter is even functional, thou they are are mostly useless as most collectors will attest to. This really is a beauty & ready for play/display. It will not disappoint. Large at 19"H x 14"W x 9"D. $395.00. (1640339)
