Radiola 16 (1927)
(wood tube casket radio)

Radiola 16 (1927)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The Radiola was the last battery set that RCA produced for home use; sets beginning with the Model 17 were for AC house current. It is a TRF (Tuned Radio Frequency) radio, receiving AM only, with six tubes. The cabinet is in very good condition, with no veneer problems. The finish is restored original. Of course, with a set this old, expect some scratches and bruises. The chassis has been electronically restored; all the old paper capacitors were replaced, and other components as necessary (which included both AF transformers). It works, and actually quite well for a nearly 90 year old TRF radio. There are areas where the tuning capacitor tends to "stick." It is not the capacitor itself, but rather the pot metal used in the housing, which expands over time. Remember that besides a good earth ground and outside antenna, you will also need a power supply (I am pleased with the ARBE III, but there are others) and a high impedance speaker. The Peerless speaker I also offer works well with it. About 16-1/2"W x 7"H x 8"D.
