ITT SMX-800 AM/FM Stereo Receiver (1967)
(metal audio gear w/FM)

ITT SMX-800 AM/FM Stereo Receiver (1967)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This 21-tube AM/FM stereo receiver is a rebadged Pioneer SX-82, one of the very last all-tube mass market receivers made. The quality and value that made Pioneer a world leader in hi-fi in the 1970s is already evident in this 1960s unit: a beautifully crafted extruded aluminum panel, sturdy mechanical construction throughout, heat shields around the output tubes, huge transformers, and elaborate circuitry throughout for highest possible performance. The amplifier, which has a strong set of four Sovtek EL84 output tubes, provides 28 watts RMS per channel at <1% distortion. The FM tuner has a NOS RCA 6CW4 Nuvistor tube in the front end for good stereo reception. Stereo was fairly new on the scene in 1967, so this receiver has various channel switching features that aren't found on modern receivers. It also has a wideband AM mode, for best possible AM sound. This unit has new capacitors throughout, a strong set of tubes, a new power cord, its switches and potentiometers have been rebuilt, and it has been very carefully aligned for like-new performance. The dial is lighted, and includes a nice bright tuning eye tube. 17-1/2"W x 5-3/4"H x 15"D.
