Zenith 5-S-228 Mini-Tombstone (1938)
(wood tube tombstone radio w/SW)

Zenith 5-S-228 Mini-Tombstone (1938)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This vintage Zenith 5-S-228 is an excellent radio. It is somewhat unusual because of its compact design, and is seldom seen for sale. A five-tube Superheterodyne, it features two bands (550-1700 KC, 5.6-18.5 MC). Each band has two tone settings, accomplished with the band switch. Dial lights up brightly and dial scale is perfect. Chassis and speaker are very clean; speaker cone is perfect. Complete electronic restoration was performed, replacing capacitors, out of tolerance resistors, band alignment, and bad or marginal tubes. The finish appears to be original and very nice so I left it alone. It works very well with just a short wire antenna (included). The serial number tag on the bottom of the cabinet matches the metal tag on the back of the chassis so it is as built in 1938. Chassis pics are available, just email me. Aux input cable was added so you can plug in an iPod, CD player, etc. and play audio through the radio. Bluetooth receiver can be added and you can stream your tunes from your phone, computer, etc. 90 day warranty. 15-1/2"H x 10"W x 9-1/2"D.
