DeWald Midget Tombstone
(wood tube tombstone radio)

DeWald Midget Tombstone

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

A very scarce AM radio, this DeWald radio has a striking design that suggests a full size tombstone, but in reality measures only 11"H x 7-3/4"W x 5-1/2"D. I was unable to find it in my many radio guides, but the back label faintly says DeWald. This was a "bells and whistles" model with a curly maple case, intricate grille cutouts, extended base and applied vertical columns framing the front and wrapping over the top. Circa 1932, the "Volume" bezel is metal and the "Selector" face is of celluloid. The radio retains the original wooden back. The case is sound, just a scratch or two, has been refinished nicely sometime in the past and has had a sliver of veneer replaced on the top at the right front which was well done. The grille cutouts have no damage nor repairs. The radio was electronically restored sometime in the past and receives local stations with the short antenna provided; a longer one should provide greater reception. The dial light also works.
