Zenith 1000-D Trans-Oceanic (1959)
(metal transistor portable radio)

Zenith 1000-D Trans-Oceanic (1959)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This is one of the nicest looking Zenith Trans-Oceanic 1000D's as well as great playing radio I have found. The D model added the CAA weather/navigation band for nine total bands. It was an option. It has awesome performance on AM and all Shortwave bands. It required very little alignment which usually means it was not used too much over the years. Two of the components that fail on any Trans-Oceanic are the transistors (usually one) and the electrolyte capacitors. Over time the electrolyte capacitors increase in value and eventually fail. In order to put these radios back to original playing condition and stay that way for years, you have to replace all the electrolyte caps. I rate this radio as 9.5 out of 10 on the appearance scale. For a radio that is over 60 years old that is pretty good. It does show some wear on the top but front and the rest of the radio are in great shape. The battery box is good and it has a log book. It can be played with D-cell batteries. The lights work fine and the antenna is straight and true. A great price for a fine radio.
