Silvertone 6201
Six tubes plus eye tube. BCB and SW (6-18 MHz). All critical components have been replaced with new. Plays well on both bands, plenty of volume and warm sound. Plastic bezel has typical aging deformities due to shrinkage. Cabinet structurally sound, has a piece of veneer missing on left side but over all looks good. Eyetube works well, about 75% brightness. New eyetube for 30 bucks extra.

Stromberg Carlson 130R
Covers broadcast band and shortwave 1.5 MHz-3.5 MHz and 6 MHz-18 MHz in two bands. All paper and electrolytic caps have been replaced with quality components from Mouser electronics. IF transformers peaked to 465Khz. RF circuits aligned for accurate tuning. Original knobs and dial glass. New old stock eye tube very bright. Set has been cleaned and lubed, very nice finish on chassis with minimal rust. Plays very well on all bands; I use an outdoor fifty foot long-wire. Cabinet has a small ding on the top front edge and a small piece of veneer patched in the lower left front corner. The tuning originally had fine tuning and coarse tuning, but the fine tuning knob doesn't work properly--the coarse tuning with the large knob is more than compensates and separating stations is easy. Multi-colored rose wood veneered cabinet refinished with shellac. Great sound from an 8" electrodynamic speaker, has three position tone control. A fine looking set with superb performance.

Six tubes, BCB and SW (5.5-12 MHz) Electronically
serviced with new components. Works very well on BCB with built in loop antenna. There is an internal loop for SW which works for strong SW stations and a connector for an outside antenna for DX reception. Good sensitivity on both bands. Fine sound and ample volume from an electrodynamic speaker and tone control. Cabinet has been cleaned and a new grille cloth installed. Looks good, plays well.

Emerson 108
Five tubes, BCB and MW (1.6-3.6 Mhz) Typical superhet circuit does quite well on BCB, there is not much to listen to on MW nowadays. All needed components and tubes were replaced with new, the volume control and switch was replaced with a good used part. The set is unusual; being small and crowded, there was no room for a ballast tube inside, so Emerson used a "curtain burner"--a built in ballast in the line cord. This was replaced with an external power resistor and heat sink. The cabinet is overall in good shape--one small stress crack on the top, and one on the front decorative bar. The back had a corner broke off and glued on. Two screw holes chipped out where the screws are missing, but the back fits well and stays on tight. Old grille cloth was worn and torn, replaced with a close matching new cloth. Looks good. Big full sound from a small tombstone.

Airline (Mongomery ward) 62-288
Six tubes, BCB only. A transformer powered superhet circuit of solid design, including an eye tube. All needed components and tubes were replaced with new. Cleaned, aligned and lubed. Performs very well with fine sensitivity and ample, full sound. Cabinet is from model 280, the battery powered version of this set, and in excellent shape. Original grille cloth on sides, top cloth replaced with old used contemporary. Flash dial face goes well with eye tube. Creamy white knobs and levers contrast with the dark Bakelite. Nice details in the Bakelite molding and no cracks or chips--plenty of original shine. One lever was missing, subs were made of a marble-like resin cast into molds made from the originals. The new are a better color match to the knobs. A new 6E5 tube was installed instead of a 6U5 with no modifications. It is a bit brighter and more sensitive in this circuit.

Stromberg Carlson 228H
Five tubes plus eye tube. BCB and SW in two bands (1.5-3.4 and 6-18 Mhz). This solid transformer powered set was designed with quality in mind. A feast for the eyes and ears. The superhet circuit is sensitive on all bands, works well with a short external antenna. The large speaker and strong amplifier section gives great sound, with a full tone control. Electronically restored with new components bulbs and tubes, cleaned, lubed and aligned for daily use. Cabinet is well made and strong. Original finish, wooden knobs and a colorful side-lit dialface with a back-lit indicator.

Eight tubes, BCB and SW 6-18 MHz. All paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. RF/IF alignment. Eye tube is split function, coarse and fine adjustment registers on right and left portions of eye. Works well on both bands. Pushbuttons for the bandswitch work fine. Station selector pushbuttons do not work. The side tuning knob is not correct, tuning must be done with the front knob. Fine looking stationized slide rule dial lights nicely. Cabinet solid but does have some flaws, as well the plastic pieces tend to warp. Overall a good looking, fine performing set.

Five tube superhet, BCB only. One of the finest Ingraham cabinets with splined corners and a routed slot on the bottom for the matching stand (not available). Beautiful veneer, elegant styling. A very sensitive set using a wire antenna or a loop. All electrolytics and paper caps have been replaced. The grill cloth is new old style. Set has wonderful warm sound. For $25 more, an Ingrham-style back can be made for this set.

BCB DX Loop Antenna
Total height 40", width 25". Made from solid teak wood with walnut trim. Knob of bubinga wood. Counter weight of hardrock maple (butcher block). Antenna consists of two windings of Litz wire. One is the primary loop antenna, the othe is a two tun loose coupling to attach to a set that already has a loop. A two section variable cap allows tuning of the whole BCB. Different configurations allowable by interchanging the alligator clips. Antenna is great for BCB DX, tuning is sharp, directionality is strong. Emerson CJ211
Five tube superhet BCB only. The smallest all-American five full size tube set I've seen. All paper and elecrolytic caps have been replaced. Original field coil speaker (heat damaged) has been replaced with a PM type. Radio manufacturers threw common sense to the wind making these tiny sets. Heat was the problem with these compacts--almost all the older components showed heat stress due to lack of clearance and
ventilation. This set has a unique plexiglas(?) back. The resistors you see on the right hand side are substituting for the field coil. Since they do need ventilation I put them atop the chassis rather than under. Bakelite cabinet has nice gloss. Two screw holes chipped out in the back. Normal superhet sensitivity and suprisingly good sound from this little set.
